Today, May 25th is National Wine Day and what could be more relevant than sharing two of my favorite wines with you?! This post will also mark the inaugural publication of a bi-monthly series of some of my favorite wines as well as new wines that have caught my attention; both at “Steal” (under $25) and “Splurge” (over $25) pricing. When I started this blog, it was in hopes of sharing my photographs with you because I would tend to keep them all to myself. Well in a sense I have been doing the same by stockpiling some of my favorite wines and it’s time to share! I have been known to be a predominant red wine drinker and this new series is going to challenge me to step out of my red wine comfort zone (although let’s not get carried away) and try new varietals. I am also going to publish an ongoing Wine List of wines I have tried to hopefully expand your palette or inspire you to try new wines. In return, I would love recommendations of your favorite wines since the world of wine is HUGE. For my first two wines, both are going to be from Washington State and also both in the “Splurge” category and I cannot get enough of either.
Up first is The Dissident Red from Mark Ryan. I have been a wine club member here for several years and keep falling in love with their wine. The Dissident is my definition of a perfect table wine that I can open anywhere, anytime. BUY this wine before it sells out like the 2013 vintage did!
My second wine is the 2012 Yakima Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Owen Roe. I have had my fair share of this wine and every time I see it in a store I feel the urge to buy a bottle. It isn’t your typical big bold cab and makes it easy to drink with barbecued red meat or even pork. If you aren’t familiar with Washington red wine, this is a great intro into what you have been missing! You can buy the 2013 vintage (which is also wonderful) online here or stop at a local wine shop and see if the 2012 vintage is available!
